I know how important it is that our children receive the best possible education. The key to quality education is solid teachers, local decision-making, and involved parents.
Parents know what is best for their children, and should be given options through home schooling, virtual schools, and school choice. We must get parents more involved, because teachers need active partners in order to maximize their effectiveness.
High performing public schools should have their hands untied from overly burdensome government regulations so that teachers and administrators can focus on students instead of paperwork. Underperforming schools should be held accountable because kids cannot wait to receive a good education.
The school funding formula also needs to be addressed, so high performing, fiscally responsible school districts are not penalized for their success. Due to the effect on our district and the complexity of the issue, it will take someone with financial expertise and leadership to address this issue.
